Privacy Policy
Knight Rise is built around no account, zero analytics, and on-device processing. The only network calls are ones you start yourself. This document spells out what that means in practice.

1. Summary
Olib AI builds Knight Rise, an iPhone and Android chess app that runs a 2300-ELO engine, a computer-vision board scanner, a coach mode, Game Review, and friend play · with the engine, vision, analysis, lessons, puzzles, and game history all on-device. We do not require an account, and we do not collect analytics, telemetry, or tracking data. The only time anything leaves your device is when you start an online action yourself: importing a game by link, or playing a friend online. Those features are opt-in.
2. What we do not collect
- Your games, positions, PGNs, or analysis results
- Images or video captured by the board scanner
- Engine queries, coach annotations, or Game Review results
- Analytics, telemetry, or third-party marketing SDK data
- Device identifiers for tracking purposes
- Location data
- Chat messages or emotes sent during local multiplayer
3. On-device processing
Engine search, vision recognition, coach explanations, Game Review, puzzles, lessons, and your game history all run and stay on your device. These features do not upload positions, images, or results to our servers, because we do not operate servers for them. Single-player, study, board scanning, puzzles, and local play work fully offline.
4. Opt-in online features and third parties
Some features connect to the network, but only when you start them. When you do, the third party involved is the one you chose, and their handling of your data is governed by their own terms and privacy policies:
- Importing a game by link. When you paste a game link (for example, a lichess game URL) into Game Review, the app fetches that game from the site the link points to. Your request goes to that site.
- Game Center play. Turn-based online play on iOS uses Apple Game Center. Matches routed through Game Center are subject to Apple's privacy terms.
- Linked lichess account. If you link a lichess account for live online play, the games, chat, and reactions you play through it take place on lichess and are subject to lichess's terms and privacy policy.
- Play by Link. When you send a game through a messenger with Play by Link, the game is delivered through whichever messaging app you pick, under that app's terms.
None of these happen automatically. They occur only when you initiate them. To support fair play, the engine's assistance is automatically disabled during live online games.
5. Local multiplayer
Local-Wi-Fi multiplayer is built on the open-source ConnectionPool library and uses the device's native encrypted peer transport with DTLS. Peers discover and exchange moves directly over your local network. No matchmaker, no game server, and no Olib AI infrastructure is involved.
6. Purchases
In-app purchases (Analysis and Pro) are processed by Apple via StoreKit on iOS, and by Google via Play Billing on Android. The platform shares with us only the anonymous transaction receipt needed to validate the unlock locally on your device. We do not see your name, email, billing address, or card details.
